Shabby & the rainbow-boy: A modern fable in Dutch [My first book – out in November]

A cat woke up on a roof… in the gutter to be precise, in the inner city of …somewhere.
“Waar be ik… en waarom ben ik hier”

A story (in Dutch) about a cat from another dimension that finds herself in a city in the province of Limburg. She has to discover her purpose, which leads her to meeting various magical characters, like a circus elephant looking for a new job by the municipality, a statue that’s in love with a river, a milk-addicted cat with existential angst, and a rainbow boy that travels with the rain and the light…. In the meantime, drama breaks out in the city, from buildings being sloped down to dogs being poisoned…

The story touches on social issues, like integration and assimilation, mixed marriages, the environment and so on. Essentially, it’s a story about looking for purpose and finding it in helping others.

Work has begun on turning the story into a book, with a super team consisting of Annemarie Staaks as editor, and Isabella El-Hasan as illustrator. The book will be out by the end of October/beginning of November.

We have already received some co-financing by Cultuurimpuls, and there is serious interest by Fortior and Cultuurpad to bring the book to schools as an educationl tool. The pilot will be held before the end of the year at Thoermalijn school in Tegelen, and from there, hopefully to Venlo at large and perhaps even the province of Limburg.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about these developments. Who would have thought that my first published book would be in Dutch!

But there is a lot of work to be done in the meantime… including raising the required funds. We will be launching a crowdfunding campaign soon, and you will be the first to hear about it.

In the meantime… prrrrrrrrr.
